From Then To Now
Louis Wayne Cotton was born on April 25, 1941, in Gideon. His parents were Albert and Ruth Shafer Cotton.
On June 22, 1963, he married Mary Kottemann of St. Louis. They had three children–
Richard was born on May 29, 1964. He is living in Dupo, Illinois, and works at Cotton’s Ace Hardware Store. He has one child, Randy (14).
Twin girls, Candy and Sherry, were born on March 26, 1968.
Candy is married to Ken Hamilton. They have two children–Brian (15) and Alexander (4). Candy, Ken, Brian and Alexander live in Fenton. Candy works as a Barisata for Barnes and Noble, and Ken is a Surveyor for Doering Engineering Company.
Sherry is married to Jim Harrington, and they live in Clarkton. They have 6 children--Jessica (20), Jason (19), James (15), Jennifer and Jerimia (13) and Joseph (11). Sherry works at Drury Inn in Poplar Bluff, and Jim is Meat Manager at Town and Country Grocery Store in Bernie.
Wayne and Mary have 9 grandchildren–
Jessica graduated Valedictorian at Clarkton High School in 2005. She is attending Maryville University in St. Louis.
Jason graduated 3rd in his class at Clarkton High School in 2006, and he is serving in the United States Navy.
James, Jennifer, Jerimia and Joseph are attending school at Clarkton.
Wayne worked as a Switchman on the Missouri Pacific Railroad for a brief time. He then worked for Chrysler Corporation for a few years until he made the decision to become an entrepreneur. This effort resulted in owning 8 grocery stores and 2 bars.
In 1988, he retired to live in Malden.
During retirement, he became very interested in genealogy. He was able to trace his family for 7 generations to the 1700's. He traveled extensively throughout Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas. His foreign travels included trips to England, Scotland, Ireland and Costa Rica.
Wayne died on June 6, 2000.
